Have you ever seen a web design company advertise a “free web quote”? Well I say, duh! Who in their right mind (especially if he or she is the owner of a legitamate company) is going to charge for a web design quote? OF COURSE IT’S FREE! It better be FREE.

So What’s Wrong with a FREE Web Design Quote?

Advertising the fact that you are going to “give away” or “give” a free Web Design quote to a company is like a billboard on the highway advertising a gas station or restaurant advertising “We have clean restrooms“. Whoa! Wait a minute. Are you kidding me? If that is all you can tell me about your gas station or restaurant – I think I’ll keep driving!

The other thing that it implies, is that you normally DO charge for quotes and you are currently running a special if you call TODAY – You will get your quote for FREE. The Final Problem – There is one other problem with many companies that offer free quotes. Many of them offer the free quote just for filling out your web address and your email in a box and you are encouraged to “submit”. The problem is – it is like money laundering. They are collecting emails just to sell your email address to potential advertisers.

The Truth! You can’t quote a business accurately about building a web site if you don’t talk to them and find out their needs, who is their target market, how much information to they want to promote, any of those things.  The design and the size of the web site is determined by need, products, services and target audience and until a web designer knows these things he can’t accurately give you a quote – whether it’s free or not.

When looking for a quality website designer, look for a company with experience, longevity, good customer service skills when you call – and preferably someone who is local. A web designer needs to be someone you can work with closely and trust implicitly.
