Greeting Card Email Alert
Good Evening everyone. I just wanted to post another – I wouldn’t necessarily call it a scam – however, it is a dangerous email.
This email probably has some sort of worm, or virus or something that can wipe out your hard drive. I don’t plan to test it to its fullest because I have no intention of clicking on the link. But as I have mentioned in other blogs you should always be cautious when you pass your mouse over a link and it doesn’t go to the web address that the email says it should.
In this case I received an email that reads:
Subject: Hey, you have a new Greeting !!!
From: Greetings.com (Greeting@greetings.com)
Body:
Hello friend ! (This should tip anyone off. If someone sends you a greeting card via email you would think that they would know the name of the person they are sending it to.)
You have just received a postcard Greeting from someone who cares about you… (another clue this should never be opened or clicked on – the someone who cares about me would be specific about who they are, thereby telling me.)
Just click here to receive your Animated Greeting ! (Now here is the clincher. When you wave your mouse over the “here” in the email a web address comes up that shows: http://rosinvar.com/card.gif.exe)
The “.exe” is the biggest tell-tale sign that screams DO NOT CLICK ON IT! It is some sort of executive file that can do countless damage to your computer.
Always remember: to avoid being taken in, never open an email you don’t specifically know who it is from. Even if you think you know who it is from – never click on imbedded links without passing over it and checking the source of the link first.
Also, one last thing to remember – do not forward the email to anyone. Emails like this could have trackers in them and the only thing they are doing is collecting email lists. An email tracker can track every email that is sent out as well as who you forward it to.
Be safe, be cautious and enjoy the web.
